General Activities
In June 2022, the 7. Educational Ethnography Conference took place in Flensburg, Germany. The conference was titled “What’s new? Innovation and Transformation in Educational Ethnographic Research”. The conference is part of a German-speaking series of conferences that started 2006 in Switzerland and take place every two years. It was initiated by a German-speaking network of educational ethnographers. The conference has for some years sought to enhance its internationality in a European context by inviting international keynotes, presentations, and symposia, with English as the second language of the conference. Seven members of the EERA ethnography network followed this call. The EERA ethnography network aims to strengthen connections to this conference and the German-speaking colleagues engaged in educational ethnography. The next conference of this series will take place 2024 in Zurich, Switzerland, organized by Gisela Unterweger and colleagues.
Publications
The network is closely related to the journal Ethnography and Education. All participants who presented their research in the ethnography network are warmly invited to submit a full paper of their presentation to the journal.
- Journal Ethnography and Education, Taylor & Francis. 4 issues per year.
- Wieser, Clemens & Pilch Ortega, Angela. (2020). Ethnography in Higher Education. Wiesbaden: Springer. 196p.
Future Plans
The network is planning two activities: An online seminar series, and the 10. Rethinking Educational Ethnography Conference.
- Online Seminar Series: The ethnography network aims to establish an online seminar series to facilitate dialogue and discussions about educational ethnography. The online seminars are structured to provide both in-depth inputs from recognized experts in the field, and an entry point for participants to get into conversation with each other as well as the invited experts. The online seminar series is organised by Gisela Unterweger and Clemens Wieser.
- Rethinking Educational Ethnography: REE is a conference series that provides a meeting space in-between ECER conferences. REE focuses on in-depth discussions of a limited number of papers. There is a regular wide range of established and emerging researchers from all parts of Europe. In 2023, the 10. Rethinking Educational Ethnography Conference will take place in Freiburg, Germany, organized by Florian Weitkämper and colleagues. Are you looking for an opportunity to meet the ethnographic community and share your ongoing work? Read the Call for Papers to find out more. The REE 2023 conference organisers look forward to receiving your abstracts until 7. Dec 2022 [Extension of Deadline].
