Book Series - Transdisciplinary Perspectives in Educational Research

Invitation from the EERA Board is to submit a proposal for books within a new book series with Springer Publications on transdisciplinary research in education.

Transcending disciplinary boundaries is increasingly important for devising solutions to pressing issues in institutions, practices and systems of education and the present invitation from the EERA Board is to submit a proposal for specifically themed edited books (anthologies) within this area. The call is open to all members of EERA affiliated organizations. We are ideally looking for collaborative projects developed within or across the 32 EERA researcher networks that organize the academic work for ECER. Proposals should be sent by email as a word-file attachment to the coordinating editor for the series, Dennis Beach, at dennis.beach(at)ped.gu.se by completing the proposal template at (download template).

In line with the template the proposals will concentrate on providing a presentation of the proposed content and potential market of the book and how the proposed book will attempt to fill one or more gaps in this market. They will be assessed in two stages: first by the editorial team at EERA and then, if the book is considered potentially suitable, by academic or professional specialists. This process typically takes 6-8 weeks. Subsequent to it the series editor will put together a formal proposal for internal circulation to members of the editorial board and the book proposal will be discussed in depth and either approved, rejected, or provisionally passed subject to revisions. The review will be made available to proposers.

We think there is a strong future for transdisciplinary research in education. However, at the same time we have to recognize that full consensus is lacking on what transdisciplinarity is, with this generating firstly a potential for an evolving focus and flexible/open methodological choices regarding theme/topic choices. Many possible examples could be given in illustration of suitably themed areas with transdisciplinary possibilities. They include themes like ‘research ethics in culturally hyper-diverse education contexts’ or ‘investigating validity in international comparative assessments’ or ‘new methods for research and developing organizations and organizational learning’. Of course this list is in no way exhaustive and we are in principle open to any and all themes that fall within the broad parameters of the call.
