1999 - 2010 Network Founded, Early Years
History of NW 22 1999 - 2010
Barbara Zamorski (University of East Anglia, UK) initiated this Network in 1999, and the Network began its activities at the 2000 Ecer Conference in Edinburgh. Rob Walker (also from the University of East Anglia) acted as a Co-convener. In 2002 Elinor Edvardsson Stiwne (Linköping University) became a Co-Convenor, as did Jani Ursin (University of Jyväskylä, Finland) in 2004. Barbara, with Elinor and Jani, then became a team of three convenors, with Barbara being the Link-Convenor until ECER 2009. In 2009, Jani took on the role of Link Convenor.
As the Network grew, and became larger, the need for more co-convenors was obvious. Therefore, in 2008 the convenors team was enlarged. The new co-convenors were: Mariana Gaio Alves (Portugal), Rosemary Deem (UK), Mari Karm (Estonia), Laurie Lomas (UK), and Monne Wihlborg (Sweden). Christine Teelken replaced Lomas position in 2009 after he retired.
The field of focus has developed considerably since the Network began. As indicated above, major changes in the role of higher education and universities globally has spawned much research and development in this education sector.
The reach and diverstity of studies can be noted in the sub-themes lintroduced for ECER 2010:
(1) Teaching, learning and assessment in higher education
(2) Employability and transition to work of higher education graduates
(3) Academic work and professional development
(4) Policy, management and governance in higher education
(5) Inclusion and diversity in higher education settings
