Papers
Paper presentations at the Emerging Researchers' Conference 2021 will be restricted to a 10 minutes presentation time, plus up to 7 minutes for questions. They will be scheduled in 90 minute sessions which will normally include 4 papers on similar themes.
We do recommend presenters prepare a pre-recorded presentation either as a video or as powerpoint with an audio track which they can then show during the session in order to guarantee that time limits can be met. Please note if presenters choose to prepare a pre-recorded video, there is still the expectation that all presenters will be present to answer questions in live time following the playing of their pre-recorded video during the session. The Emerging Researchers Conference is a live, interactive conference, and the programme committee is committed to fostering rich conversations through discussions in real-time during allocated sessions.
A paper is submitted by one author plus up to 5 co-authors; 2 of the 6 authors can be listed as presenting authors.
The submission consists of an abstract (600 words), a methods section (400 words), conclusions (300 words) plus references (400 words).
EERA will nominate a mentor/chairperson for each session who will take care of time and manage discussion.
Please plan your presentation in a way to allow some questions within your presentation time. We suggest that you end your presentation with a couple of questions in order to stimulate discussion after the presentation.
Ignite Talks (20 slides in 5 minutes)
EERA invites presenters to submit Ignite Talks. Contributions handed in as an Ignite Talk undergo the same peer review process as all other submission formats. Preferably, each session will have 3 - 5 Ignite Talk presentations with a chairperson prepared to engage participants in discussion. In some cases, the Ignite Talk presentations will be programmed together with paper and/or poster presentations.

General Guidance for Ignite Talks
Ignite Talks have a fixed format in which presenters prepare 20 slides which automatically advance every 15 seconds. The result is a fast and fun presentation which lasts just 5 minutes. An example of a research-based Ignite Talk can be seen here.
To keep the time, the presentation software's timer needs be set so as to display each slide for 15 seconds before the next slide advances. Images are the key to an effective Ignite Talk. Try to find images that are illustrations or metaphors of your key points and/or use words-as-images.
All ERC Ignite Talks will take place in a 90-minute session, in front of an audience and the mentor/chairperson. After the presentation, the mentor/chair and the conference participants can ask the presenter questions during a 5 - 10 minute discussion. Posters
The ERC has Interactive Poster Sessions in which the authors present their poster for 10 minutes in a session, in front of an audience and the mentor/chairperson. After the presentation, the mentor/chairperson and other conference participants can ask the presenter questions during a 5 - 10 minute discussion. Each poster should include your name and the title of your submission, and submission number.

Online Posters
As the posters will be presented virtually on a screen, we ask poster authors to keep this format in mind when creating their poster. We suggest favouring graphics and keywords over long texts and in general making sure the poster is as easy to read on a screen as possible.
All posters which will be presented in the virtual poster exhibition will have to be uploaded to the ECER submission/registration system (Conftool) prior to the conference. Deadlines and guidelines on this will be communicated later in the process. For now, just be aware that you will need to have your poster finalised earlier than in case of an in-person conference.
